that's how much one of our users wrote off last year. teni tracked every trip — client visits, studio runs, market drops, conference travel. one tap per drive to categorize. teni did the rest.

how it works

four steps to deductible mileage.

1

drives detected in background

teni uses your phone's motion data and location history. recognizes when you're driving. zero battery drain — the detection runs on-device, lightweight.

2

swipe to categorize

at the end of the day, teni lists your trips. swipe left for personal (commute, errands). swipe right for business (client visit, studio, supplier). edit anything anytime.

3

purpose auto-filled from context

teni cross-references your calendar, location history, and notes. if you have a meeting in your calendar at 2pm in brooklyn, it suggests 'client meeting' for the 1:45–3:15pm drive there.

4

ready for schedule c at year-end

sum all business miles. multiply by $0.70. done. teni exports your mileage log for your accountant or tax prep software. no manual entry. no lost receipts.

background task designed for efficiency

even when teni is closed, the background task runs quietly. most days it uses less battery than a weather app. you won't notice it running.

common questions

asked & answered.

what's the difference between standard mileage and actual expense?

standard mileage is $0.70/mile (2024 rate). you don't track gas, maintenance, insurance — just miles. actual expense means tallying every cost and dividing by miles driven. standard is simpler and usually wins. teni handles standard mileage out of the box.

are commutes deductible?

no. commute to your home office or primary workplace is not deductible. but drive from home to a client, supplier, or second job location? that's business. teni excludes known commutes automatically, but you can override.

i'm a part-time rideshare driver. how does this work?

when you're online and available for rides, all miles are deductible. when you're offline, not deductible. teni can tie into your gig app to track when you're active — and automatically categorize those miles as business.

what if i drive the same route every week?

teni groups recurring trips. studio visit every monday, client meeting every wednesday. you categorize the first one, teni suggests the same category for future weeks. you can batch-approve or edit.

can i export my mileage for an accountant?

yes. teni exports a PDF log with date, start, end, miles, purpose, and total. accountants and tax prep software read it directly. it's also built into teni's Schedule C export.

ready to stop logging miles manually?

download teni for free. turn on background tracking. teni does the rest — and your mileage is automatically ready when you file.
