privacy policy

what we collect

to provide teni, we collect and process:

• account information: your name, email address, phone number, and password
• financial data: income sources (stripe, square, gumroad, etc.), expenses, receipts, mileage logs, and any other data you enter or connect
• usage data: how you use teni (features accessed, time spent, interactions with sam)
• device data: device type, operating system, and app version
• location data (optional): if you enable mileage tracking, we collect your location to calculate business miles

how we use your data

we use your data to:

• provide teni: prepare your taxes, track expenses, calculate deductions
• improve teni: train sam sees, identify features users need, fix bugs
• communicate with you: send updates, security alerts, and customer support
• comply with law: provide data to tax authorities if legally required

what we never do

• sell your data: we don't sell your financial information, contact details, or usage patterns to anyone
• show you ads: teni doesn't have ads and we don't use your data for advertising
• share with third parties: except when required by law, we don't share your data with outside companies
• use your data to train commercial models: sam sees is trained on anonymized historical data, not your personal returns

third-party services

teni may integrate with third parties you authorize (stripe, square, your bank). when you connect an account, we share only the data necessary to provide that service. we use hosting, analytics, and customer support tools, but those vendors are bound by confidentiality agreements.

data retention

we keep your data as long as you have a teni account. if you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records by law (tax records, for example, may be kept for 7 years to comply with irs requirements).

your rights

you have the right to:

• access your data: we can export all your data in a machine-readable format
• delete your data: you can request account deletion at any time
• correct your data: you can update inaccurate information
• opt out of communications: you can unsubscribe from marketing emails (we don't send many anyway)

security

we encrypt your data in transit (tls) and at rest (aes-256). we require multi-factor authentication, audit access logs, and conduct security reviews. we don't claim to be unhackable — no company is — but we treat your data like our own and invest in its protection.

california privacy rights (ccpa)

if you're a california resident, you have additional rights under the california consumer privacy act. you can request what personal information we have, delete it, and opt out of any "sales" of your data (we don't sell, but the law is broad). email privacy@getteni.com with your request.

changes to this policy

if we change this policy, we'll notify you via email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. continued use of teni means you accept the updated policy.
